Notice issued on Former Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Former Chief Justice (CJ) Sarath N. Silva who was accused of contempt of court was issued a notice by the Supreme Court to appear before courts on the 07th of February. Silva was present in court today (January 23) before a bench comprising of judges Vijith Malalgoda, S. Thurairajah, and Murdu Fernando. The case was filed against Silva alleging that he had made comments in contempt of court at a rally held in Maradana on December 3, 2018. The case was filed by Senior Professor Chandragupta Thenuwara, Professor Hewawaduge Cyril and Senior Professor Prishantha Gunawardena. President's Counsel Romesh De Silva appearing for the former CJ stated he was present today (January 23) based on the information received through media reports, and not through notice to be present in court.
