Ill-fated Tsunami train returns to Matara

Colombo (News1st): A number of events took place around the island in remembrance of those affected by the Tsunami in 2004. A special train consisting an engine that was in operation on the 26th of December 2004 traveled to Matara today (December 26). Fort Railway Stationmaster, Piyal Wijesiri noted that this train faced the unfortunate incident and that it is of paramount importance to the Department of Railways. The train driver for today, K.G. Nanayakkara noted that the person who died while operating the train that fateful day was Janaka Fernando. He added that the steel engine was pushed aside by the enormous waves. The train carrying all these memories left Maradana at 6.30 AM.
