COLOMBO (News 1st) - Attending an event held in Hambantota the chairman of the Elections Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya commented on the current political situation and the people's voting rights. He said that as per their schedule the provincial councils have already been delayed and that the presidential election should be held before the 09th of December 2019.

Responding to a query by a journalist as to whether the delimitation with regard to the provincial council election has ended, Deshapriya said that the process has not concluded as yet.
He said that as per the new decision the election cannot be held based on the mixed system adding that he hopes that the cabinet and the parliament will either do the necessary amendments to the acts or hold elections based on the previous system.
