02 police officers killed in shootout

were based (News 1st) - 02 police officers, were killed in a shootout in Vavunathivu, Batticaloa. The officers stationed at a security checkpoint in the Vavunathivu area. Their bodies were found under suspicious circumstances. The IGP has ordered a special investigation into the incident. The body of one constable was found opposite the checkpoint, while the other was found on a bed inside the checkpoint. A T-56 assault rifle had been used for the killing, while the weapons owned by the deceased police constables were also missing. The deceased were police constables Dinesh Algarathnam, a 28-year-old resident of the Kalmunai area and Niroshan Indika a 35-year-old resident of Udugama Galle, and a father of one. The bodies have been taken to the Batticaloa hospital for the post-mortem examination, while a special team including the IGP visited the Vavunathivu area this afternoon.
