15% of schools at risk of being dengue breeding grounds

Colombo (News1st): The Health sector warns that 15% of school premises face a risk of dengue. Health Promotion Bureau issuing a communique states that 1/3 of the total number of dengue patients are school students. They added that thereby schools premises should be cleaned before the schools holidays begin. The health sectors also points out that the spread of dengue has increased due to the prevalent Northeastern monsoon rains. The National Dengue Control Unit also stressed that the number of dengue mosquitoes have increased. Over 43,000 people were diagnosed with dengue this year alone. The unit noted that a special dengue eradication programme will be conducted at G.C.E. Ordinary level examination centers starting from tomorrow (November 30) to the 3rd of December. The circular referring to this has already been issued.
