Investigation launched into an inmate escape

Colombo (News1st): Investigation has been launched into the escape of an inmate from the Kegalle Prison during the transfer process. The Prisons Spokesperson Thushara Upuldeniya stated that the prisoner was to be moved from Kegalle prison to the Colombo Remand prison and thereafter to be moved to the Kalutara Prison. The exact location of the escape had not yet been established. Even though the incident occurred on the 07th of November, it was reported to the respective authorities three days later. Upuldeniya noted that they are looking into the possibility of the escape being assisted by a prison officer. The fled inmate is of the name Sunil Shantha and is a suspect in 10 separate cases.
