Public transport associations mulling fare review

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Despite a reduction in fuel prices, no decisions have yet been reached to reduce the cost of public transport. When News 1st inquired into the matter the Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association President Gemunu Wijeratne said bus fares would not be revised despite the reduction of the price of diesel by Rs. 5. The General Secretary of the All Ceylon Bus Companies Federation Anjana Priyanjith said that discussions will be held today (November 16) with regard to the fare reduction. The Chairman of the National Transport Commission M.A.P. Hemachandra said that a fare review will be considered in the future. Meanwhile, the National Combined Trishaw Drivers and Workers Associations chairman K.D Alwis said that a final decision will be reached by Monday. Petrol and diesel prices were reduced with effect from midnight yesterday (November 15).
