Colombo (News1st): UN Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Hanna Singer along with several Ambassadors and High Commissioners of western countries held discussions with Speaker Karu Jayasuriya regarding the current political situation in the country.
According to a statement issued by the speaker's office the EU ambassador, the German ambassador, as well as the High Commissioners of the United Kingdom and Canadian, joined the meeting.
The statement noted that the foreign delegates were disappointed by the unanticipated changes in the country's political structure and were concerned over the consequences the country would have to face. Further, the speaker has requested all officials present at the meeting to refrain from taking any measures against Sri Lanka.
According to a statement issued by the Tamil National Alliance, UN resident coordinator Henna Singer also met with opposition leader R.Sambanthan and discussed matters relating to the current political situation in the country.
