Colombo (News1st): Issuing a communique in response to reports of RAW's involvement in the alleged assassination attempt on President Maithripala Sirisena, the Indian Prime Minister's office says, the reports are malicious and that the Indian Prime Minister appreciates the prompt action taken by the President.
The release goes on to state that the President had spoken to Prime Minister Modi last evening and had categorically rejected the reports filed by certain media outlets which said that the President had mentioned India's involvement in an alleged plot to assassinate him and the former Defence Secretary.
According to the release, the President Maithripala Sirisena had also recalled his telephone conversation with the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka last morning and had also informed the Prime Minister of the prompt action taken by the Sri Lankan Government to publicly reject these claims stating that they are baseless, false and seemed intended to create a misunderstanding between the two nations.
The communique also says, the Indian Prime Minister had appreciated the prompt action taken by the President and his Government to firmly refute the malicious claims by publicly clarifying the matters.
The statement issued by the Indian Prime Ministers office noted that possible action will be taken against the newspaper for carrying such a 'malicious' report.
