COLOMBO (News 1st) - UK Minister for Asia, Mark Field arrived in the island earlier today (October 05). He is due to hold discussions on reconciliation, trade, and people to people links.
Minister Mark Field is scheduled to meet the Minister of Foreign Affairs Thilak Marapana, Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya, Minister of Public Administration & Management and Law and Order Ranjith Madduma Bandara, and Minister of Sports and Provincial Councils & Local Government Faizer Mustapha during his visit.
Minister Mark Field will also discuss a range of issues, including the UK's continued support provided to Sri Lanka in achieving meaningful and lasting reconciliation in the interests of all Sri Lankans.
He will also visit the London Stock Exchange Group's fast-growing Colombo operation in order to celebrate links between Sri Lanka and the UK, which employs several hundred Sri Lankan IT and Finance experts.
He said he also engaged in a constructive discussion with the leader of the Opposition R. Sampanthan about the challenges ahead of him.
Executive Vice President of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) David Bohigian and other U.S. government officials concluded their visit to Sri Lanka today (October 05).
