Presidents launches the 2nd stage of the Wayamba ela project

Colombo (News1st) - The inauguration ceremony of the program to renovate 2,400 rural tanks connected with the Ellanga Gammana or the Cascaded Tank Village System in the dry zone and the commencement of the Second Stage of the Wayamba Ela project, took place today (August 24). The event took place under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena. The Cascaded Tank-Village system was designated a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Around 300 tanks are to be renovated in the Kurunegala District, under this program.
