Commission to look into salary anomalies

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to appoint a Special Salaries Commission to increase public sector salaries. Issuing a communique the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media said the Commission will be tasked with increasing the salaries of all state sector employees and resolving the salary anomalies prevalent in certain sectors including the railway service. The Commission has been given a period of two months to submit recommendations in this regard. The commission will also have to look into the impact of certain circulars pertaining to the salaries and allowances of state sector employees. The Ministry of Finance and Mass Media says the government is hoping to introduce a new salary scheme based on the recommendations put forward by the commission.
