Chief Prelate highlights importance of developing rural roads in Kandy

Colombo (News 1st) - Minister of Highways and Road Development Kabir Hashim called on the Chief Prelates of the Asgiri and Malwatu chapters today. The vehicular traffic in the Kandy City was a topic that came up for discussion during the meetings. Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero the Chief Prelate of the Malwatu Chapter stated that similar to the expressways being constructed roads leading to the rural villages must be built. The Chief Prelate went on to question whether there is no other way to repair roads that are in a dilapidated condition. the Thero exclaimed that the tar on the roads had not been renewed for 25 years. Minister of Highways and Road Development, Kabir Hashim replied to this stating that by the end of the year the Ministry will begin a broad program to renovate the rural roads. Ven. Sri Sumangla Thero commented on this regard stating that it's been three years since they have been elected and there is no time left for a broad program to be established. Minister Kabir Hashim also called on the chief prelate of the of the Asgiri Chapter to discuss development that are planned for the Kandy City.
