18 archaeological statues in Dambulla cave temple at risk

COLOMBO (News 1^st) -18 statues at the Rangiri Dambulu Raja Maha Viharaya are at risk of being destroyed. According to the Department of Archeology, the humidity in the caves is the main cause of this situation. The Department of archeology, says the interior of these statues have been exposed to humidity. Accordingly, the conservation of the statues has been initiated expeditiously. The statues belonging to the Kandyan era were renovated last in 1996.
