Government Has Closed the Leaks That Drained the Economy, Says Eranga Gunasekara

COLOMBO (News 1st) ; Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara says the current Government has succeeded in transforming Sri Lanka from a bankrupt nation into a middle-income country.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Minister highlighted what he described as a significant economic turnaround since the country's financial collapse, stating that Sri Lanka had strengthened its revenue collection and foreign exchange position under the current administration.

Gunasekara argued that the improvement was not the result of any “magic solution,” but rather careful management of public funds and foreign exchange earnings.

The Deputy Minister claimed that previous administrations had failed to prevent financial leakages within the state system.

According to Gunasekara, the strengthening of state finances has enabled the Government to provide salary increases that exceed the amounts originally requested by workers.

The Deputy Minister also blamed decades of political leadership for the hardships faced by working families across the country.
