Furthermore, he stated that they need to investigate how many businesses he has and what his initial investment was.
“I received a petition yesterday which I submitted to the Bribery and Corruption Commission. These are two reports which were published in the Daily News and the Island newspapers in 2001.”
Further, he said that it speaks of an instance where apparel worth about 500 million rupees which were to be exported being sold in the local market and a problem which has arisen with the monies not tallying up.
According to him, the Inland Revenue Department had inquired into this and checked it following which Malik Samarawickrema had to pay compensation. He said that he came across 19 cheques relating to this matter.
“How did the cheques that were given to the Inland Revenue Department come out? This is a big problem. There are single cheques which have been written out for a sum of 1.1 million rupees. The total sum of money paid through these cheques amounts to about 20.9 million rupees.”
