COLOMBO (News1st): Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Dr. Prasanna Gunasena announced in Parliament today that the government is considering revising the regulations governing the registration and use of 48cc motorcycles.
Responding to a question raised by a Member of Parliament, the Deputy Minister said that under an amendment introduced to the Motor Traffic Act No. 8 of 2019, motorcycles with an engine capacity of 48cc must be registered, and their riders are required to hold a valid driving licence.
However, considering the difficulties faced by users of these motorcycles under the existing regulations, the government has decided to submit a Cabinet paper proposing amendments to the relevant laws.
