New Law to Tackle Organized Crime and Cross-Border Trafficking

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Deputy Defence Minister Major General (Retired) Aruna Jayasekara says a strong new law will be introduced in the future to combat organized crime and cross-border trafficking.

The Deputy Defence Minister made the statement while speaking at a media briefing held to provide information on the largest drug haul recovered from Sri Lanka’s Northern Province.

The Ministry of Defence said the haul of drugs recovered from the Kusumanthurai beach in Madagal, Jaffna, is valued at approximately 1.5 billion rupees.

The Ministry said 35 kilograms of heroin and 45 kilograms of ice were recovered.

A suspect and a vessel were also taken into Naval custody along with the consignment.
