3,495 People Affected by Heavy Rains Across 15 Districts

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Disaster Relief Services Centre says 3,495 people have been affected by heavy rainfall across 15 districts.

This includes 768 families from 90 Divisional Secretariat Divisions.

Three people have died and five others have been injured due to disasters caused by the rainy weather.

One person remains missing.

The National Disaster Relief Services Centre said 124 people from 36 families are currently staying at five safety centres.

Meanwhile, the landslide warning issued for seven districts has been extended until 4 p.m. today.

The affected districts are Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Matara, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura.

Level Two landslide warnings have been issued for the Niyagama, Thawalama, Neluwa and Nagoda Divisional Secretariat Divisions in Galle District.

Level Two landslide warnings are also in effect for the Dehiowita, Deraniyagala, Yatiyantota, Mawanella and Aranayake Divisional Secretariat Divisions in Kegalle District.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology says several spells of rain are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, as well as Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva and Eastern Provinces, and in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts, after 2 p.m. today.
