Supreme Court Dismisses Contempt Petitions Against Shani Abeysekara and Others

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Supreme Court has decided to dismiss, without a hearing, two petitions filed against Deputy Inspector General of the Criminal Investigation Department Shani Abeysekara, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security Ravi Seneviratne, and Fr. Cyril Gamini, alleging contempt of court.

The two petitions had been filed by retired Air Force officer Shantha Jayatilake.

One of the petitions alleged that Shani Abeysekara and Ravi Seneviratne had committed contempt of court through an affidavit previously submitted to the Supreme Court.

The other petition alleged that facts contained in a complaint submitted by Fr. Cyril Gamini to the Criminal Investigation Department had also amounted to contempt of court.
