Landslide warnings under Level Two have also been issued for several Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Galle, Kandy, Kegalle, Matara, and Ratnapura districts.

Under Level One, landslide warnings have been issued for areas in the Colombo, Galle, Gampaha, Hambantota, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, and Ratnapura districts.

Heavy Rain Expected in the Southwestern Areas

The Department of Meteorology says a deep depression currently located over the west-central and adjoining northwestern Bay of Bengal is moving west-northwestward and is likely to cross the coast of northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha in India tonight.

The department said the system is not expected to have a direct impact on Sri Lanka.

However, due to the wind flow associated with the system, the prevailing rainy conditions in the southwestern parts of the island are expected to continue.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North Western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

Some areas in these regions could receive heavy rainfall exceeding 100 millimetres.
