Need a Police Clearance? Sri Lanka Police Announce New WhatsApp Contact

COLOMBO (News1st) - A new WhatsApp number has been introduced for inquiries relating to police clearance certificate applications.

The Police Clearance Division stated that inquiries can now be made by sending messages to 071 8595950 via WhatsApp.

At present, applicants are being provided with the facility to obtain police clearance reports through regional police stations.

Police said online submission of police clearance applications has been temporarily suspended due to essential maintenance work being carried out on the Police Clearance Computer System.

Until the system is fully restored, police clearance certificates will be processed through this alternative arrangement.

Accordingly, applicants can visit the official police website, www.police.lk, access Digital Services, navigate to Clearance Certificate, and download the relevant application form.

The completed application must then be submitted to a police station together with copies of the applicant's National Identity Card, passport, and birth certificate. If there is a discrepancy between the name appearing on the National Identity Card and the passport, a copy of an affidavit must also be provided.

Applicants currently residing overseas must arrange for the required documents to be submitted to the relevant police station by a close relative.

Foreign nationals seeking a Sri Lankan Police Clearance Certificate may submit their applications through the nearest Sri Lankan Embassy or High Commission in their country of residence.

Police said the temporary procedure will remain in effect until the Police Clearance Computer System is fully restored.
