COLOMBO (News 1st) - Although it was previously stated that former First Lady, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Shiranthi Rajapaksa, would return to Sri Lanka on September 19, she has not yet arrived in the country.
Spokesperson for Mahinda Rajapaksa, Attorney at Law Manoj Gamage confirmed this in response to an inquiry by Newsfirst.
Meanwhile, a female relative who had travelled to Singapore with Shiranthi Rajapaksa on September 16 returned to Sri Lanka last night.
Attorney Manoj Gamage said family members are not prepared to disclose details regarding Shiranthi Rajapaksa’s failure to return or her current whereabouts.
Gamage had previously stated that Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Sri Lanka, travelled to Singapore on September 16 for further medical care.
Shiranthi Rajapaksa has been summoned to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division on the 24th of September, in connection with an ongoing investigation into the financial transactions of the ‘Siriliya Saviya’ organization, which operated under her leadership.
