Minor Flood Warnings Issued Along Mahaweli, Gin Rivers

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minor flood warnings have been issued for low-lying areas along the Mahaweli and Gin Rivers following heavy rainfall in their respective catchment areas.

The warning along the Mahaweli River covers the Ganga Ihala Korale, Udapalatha, Doluwa, Udunuwara, Yatinuwara, Gangawata Korale, Harispattuwa, and Pathadumbara Divisional Secretariat Divisions.

Meanwhile, low-lying areas in Thawalama, Nagoda, Baddegama, and Welivitiya-Divithura have been placed under a minor flood warning along the Gin River.

The warnings are in effect for the next 24 hours.

The Department of Irrigation said significant rainfall has been recorded in the catchment areas of both river basins.

Residents in low-lying areas, as well as motorists travelling through these areas, have been urged to exercise extreme caution.
