China to Assist Sri Lanka with Smart Agriculture Tech, Says Ministry

COLOMBO (News1st); The Ministry of Agriculture stated that the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka has agreed to provide Sri Lanka with technologies to manage agricultural activities using mobile applications that measure soil conditions, humidity, and overall environmental factors.

Chinese Ambassador Wei Huaxiang expressed this agreement during a discussion held at the Govijana Mandiraya with the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation, K.D. Lalkantha aimed at further enhancing agricultural cooperation between Sri Lanka and China.

During the meeting, the Ambassador noted that China possesses advanced hybrid rice varieties capable of growing even in seawater, as well as land preparation technology suitable for both dry and wet weather conditions.

He added that there is potential to open up space for Sri Lankan agricultural products within China’s vast market.

Minister of Agriculture K.D. Lalkantha emphasized Sri Lanka’s readiness to continue maintaining and strengthening this ongoing cooperation with China.
