Rajnath Singh's Sri Lanka Visit to Focus on Defence, Maritime Security

COLOMBO (News 1st): Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow (8) for an official visit aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries in key areas including defence, economic engagement, maritime affairs and regional security.

In a statement, the Indian Ministry of Defence said that Minister Singh, accompanied by senior officials from India's Ministry of External Affairs, will undertake the visit from September 8 to September 10.

During the visit, Rajnath Singh is expected to hold discussions with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Defence Secretary Retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha.

The Indian Defence Minister is also scheduled to meet members of the Indian community residing in Colombo.

According to the Indian Ministry of Defence, the visit is intended to further enhance cooperation between India and Sri Lanka in the fields of defence, economic development, maritime affairs and regional security, while reinforcing the longstanding historical ties shared by the two neighbouring nations.
