COLOMBO (News 1st): The 79th Session of the World Health Organization's South-East Asia Regional Committee got underway in Dili, Timor-Leste, bringing together health ministers, senior health officials, and representatives from across the region.
A Sri Lankan delegation led by the current Chair of the Regional Committee, Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, is participating in the session.
The Sri Lankan delegation also includes Director General of Health Services Specialist Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. S. Sreedharan, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. S. M. Arnold, Senior Professor of Genetics and Biomedical Informatics Vajira H. W. Dissanayake, and Dr. Janaki Vidanapathirana.
The session is attended by health ministers of member states in the South-East Asia region, senior health administrators, senior officials of the World Health Organization, and other representatives involved in shaping regional health policy.
Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, who was elected Chair of the Regional Committee during the 78th Session held in Colombo in 2025, will continue to serve in that capacity until a new Chair is elected during the current session.
