Sewanagala Sugar Factory Workers to Meet Minister Today

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A special discussion will be held today between workers of the Sewanagala Sugar Factory who are currently under strike actions and the Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti.

The discussion will focus on issues surrounding the workers’ existing salaries and allowances.

Chairman of Lanka Sugar Company, Wasantha Athula Kumara, said the workers have raised four main concerns.

Accordingly, the workers have requested confirmation of the manpower requirement, along with the prompt payment of their salaries and allowances.

As their second request, the workers have called for 5kg of sugar to be provided to employees at a subsidized price of Rs.80/= per kilogram as a monthly incentive.

Third request is for all incentives previously provided to employees to be reinstated and continued.

Lastly, workers’ health insurance benefits and scholarships for their children to continue without interruption.
