COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya met His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck at the historic Tashichhodzong in Thimphu on September 2, during her official visit to the Kingdom of Bhutan.
The audience focused on Bhutan's future development priorities and opportunities to further strengthen bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Bhutan.
During the discussions, His Majesty expressed Bhutan's interest in drawing on Sri Lanka's experience and expertise in areas relevant to Bhutan's long-term development plans.
The meeting also explored opportunities to expand investment links, with discussions including the possibility of establishing an investment zone in Bhutan as both countries seek to strengthen economic cooperation and create new avenues for growth.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya and His Majesty further exchanged views on demographic challenges facing Bhutan, particularly the increasing migration of young people and its potential impact on the country's future workforce and population dynamics.
The discussions reflected shared concerns about sustainable development and the importance of creating opportunities that encourage young people to contribute to national growth and economic progress.
