Veteran Singer and Actor Priyankara Perera Passes Away

COLOMBO (News 1st): The final rites of late veteran singer and actor Priyankara Perera will be held tomorrow evening, at the Borella General Cemetery.

His remains will be placed at a private funeral parlour in Borella from 3:00 p.m. onwards today, allowing the public and well-wishers to pay their final respects.

Priyankara Perera, who had been receiving treatment for an illness, passed away at the age of 64.

A cherished figure in Sri Lanka’s music and film industries, Priyankara Perera leaves behind a lasting legacy spanning several decades.

He was the beloved son of legendarySri Lankan singer J. A. Milton Perera and inherited his father’s distinctive and melodious voice. 

From a young age, he made his mark in the local music industry and remained committed to keeping his father’s timeless songs alive for future generations.

Songs such as Supun Sandak, Sandun Gase Saman Welak, Sikuruliya, and Agadha Sagare remain among the memorable works associated with his musical journey.

Alongside his singing career, Priyankara also demonstrated a natural talent for acting, delivering memorable performances in several Sinhala films, including Madhuri, Surangana, and Seethala Ginikandu.

He was the beloved husband of veteran actress Dilhani Ekanayake and the father of popular young singer Dilmin Perera.

Although his voice has now fallen silent, the melodious songs he gifted to generations of Sri Lankan music lovers will remain immortal in their hearts.

A beloved artist who enriched Sri Lanka’s cultural landscape, Priyankara Perera will be deeply missed. May he attain the supreme bliss of Nibbana.
