Taavi Secures Silver In Croatia, Continues International Table Tennis Brilliance With Fifth Consecutive U-11 Final

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka’s young table tennis sensation Taavi Samaraweera continued his impressive run on the international stage, securing back-to-back podium finishes for the country.

Taavi won the silver medal in the Under-11 Singles category at the WTT Youth Contender 2026 in Varaždin, Croatia, held from August 29 to 31.

The tournament, conducted under the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), is an official World Youth Ranking event. Taavi delivered a series of outstanding performances to reach the Under-11 Singles final.

Remarkably, this marked Taavi’s fifth consecutive appearance in an Under-11 Singles final at WTT Youth Contender tournaments in 2026.

He also produced a strong showing in the Under-13 Singles category, reaching the Quarter-Finals and finishing among the Top 8 players.

In the Under-11 Singles category, Taavi has won four gold medals and one silver medal for Sri Lanka in 2026, with gold-medal victories in Qatar, Bahrain, Kosovo and Slovenia, followed by a silver medal in Croatia.

In the Under-13 Singles category, Taavi has also secured three podium finishes this year, a silver medal in Kosovo and bronze medals in Norway and Slovenia.

Despite the challenges along the way, Taavi Samaraweera continues to raise the Sri Lankan flag on the international table tennis stage, building an impressive record of consistent performances and podium finishes at the highest level of youth competition.
