Over Rs. 900M Allocated for Development Projects in Nuwara Eliya Under Praja Shakthi National Programme

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A total of 786 development projects worth Rs. 997.84 million are planned to be initiated in the Nuwara Eliya district.

Out of these, 263 are livelihood development projects, for which an estimated budget of Rs. 296.19 million has been allocated.

Furthermore, 286 projects have been planned for infrastructure development.

The estimated budget allocated for this is Rs. 543.22 million.

In addition, Rs. 500,000 per unit has been allocated for the development of technical equipment and facilities for the "Praja Shakthi" units established at District Secretariat and Divisional Secretariat levels.

This is in parallel with the Praja Shakthi National Programme for Poverty Alleviation

Dr. Upali Pannila, Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment, has instructed officials to expedite all development projects to vest them in the public, and to implement them in a manner that ensures maximum benefits reach the people.

It is planned to implement at least one development project in every Grama Niladhari division.

The amount allocated for this from this year's budget is Rs. 25,000 million.

Currently, around 15,646 rural-level development projects have been initiated across the island.

Their financial value is Rs. 22,425 million.
