COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Bill to abolish the post of Chief of Defence Staff is scheduled to be presented to Parliament on September 9.

The vote on the Bill is scheduled to take place at 5:00 p.m. on the same day.

The post was originally established to coordinate and manage joint operations among the Tri-Forces.

The decision to abolish the position has been made as it is no longer considered necessary in the current context, particularly in terms of managing defence expenditure.
