COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development says steps have been taken to introduce a paperless digital system for the clearance of imported goods through Customs.
Senior Additional Secretary to the President Seevali Arukgoda stated that the new paperless import system is scheduled to be implemented from October 1.
Under the new system, importers will no longer need to submit hard copies of relevant documents. Instead, the required documents can be submitted digitally to Customs through an online system.
Arukgoda said the new system is expected to make the customs clearance process faster and more efficient, allowing goods to be cleared within a shorter period of time and at a lower cost.
