COLOMBO (News 1st); Mahil Senarathne, the younger brother of former Minister Rajitha Senaratne and a former Chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation, has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
The arrest was made in connection with corruption allegations dating back to his tenure as Chairman of the Fisheries Corporation between 2010 and 2012.
According to the Bribery Commission, the investigation relates to the construction and renovation of fish sales outlets across the country during that period. It is alleged that approvals were granted directly to two selected institutions without following the prescribed procurement process.
Investigators further allege that Senarathne exerted pressure on officials to authorize payments to the institutions concerned.
Mahil Senarathne is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court for further legal proceedings.
