COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga has risen to the top of the world rankings in the men's javelin throw.
His achievement follows his outstanding performances this season, including his gold medal-winning throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Rumesh secured the Commonwealth title with a throw of 89.75 metres and now leads the world rankings with 1,354 points.
The achievement also marks the first time a Sri Lankan athlete has reached the No. 1 position in the world rankings for the men's javelin throw.
Germany's Julian Weber, who previously held the top spot, has dropped to second place in the latest rankings.
