Defence Ministry Orders Immediate Disaster Preparedness

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Defence has instructed District Secretaries to take all necessary measures to safeguard the public from potential disasters arising from the prevailing severe weather conditions.

In a statement, the Ministry said suitable programmes should be implemented to protect lives and property by activating village-level disaster management committees and strengthening preparedness for emergencies such as landslides and floods.

The directive comes as adverse weather conditions continue to affect several districts, prompting authorities to intensify disaster response measures and preparedness efforts across vulnerable areas.
