Constable Arrested Over Controversial Facebook Posts

COLOMBO (News 1st); A police constable has been arrested over allegations of publishing Facebook posts deemed insulting to the President and the government, as well as engaging with similar content on social media.

The arrest was made by officers attached to the Central Crime Investigation Bureau following an investigation launched in response to a complaint received by the Inspector General of Police.

According to police, the suspect was serving at the office of the Assistant Senior Superintendent of Police in Embilipitiya at the time of the arrest.

Police further revealed that the suspect had previously served for several years as a member of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's security detail.

Authorities stated that legal action would be instituted against the suspect under the provisions of the Penal Code.
