COLOMBO (News 1st);Two Sri Lankan nationals who illegally attempted to enter Dhanushkodi in India by boat have been arrested by the Indian coast guard.

The suspects, identified as two residents of Wattala, aged 30 and 31, are currently being held at a special camp within the premises of the Tiruchirappalli Central Prison.

Sri Lankan police have launched investigations to determine whether they are linked to last Thursday’s shooting incident in Wattala and have also requested Indian authorities to facilitate their early return to Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, four suspects arrested over the shooting and killing of a 39-year-old man at a hotel in Palliyawatta, Wattala, are due to be produced before the Welisara Magistrate today.

Police said two of the suspects are expected to be placed under detention orders, while all four were arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting the crime.

The suspects include a woman and three men.

According to police, the shooting was linked to a dispute between two organised criminal groups involved in drug trafficking.

Police said the clash took place between groups led by "Borella Roshan" and "Paravi Sudha."

Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler said the victim, who was killed during the shooting at a birthday party held at a hotel in Palliyawatta, was also involved in drug trafficking.

Police said the assailants arrived in a car, carried out the shooting, and then fled.

The vehicle believed to have been used in the attack was later found abandoned on a road near the Ja-Ela Police Station.
