COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Sri Lanka Life Saving Association says more than 500 lifeguards have been deployed for special duties to ensure the safety of devotees during the upcoming Poson Poya.
Chief Executive Officer Asanka Nanayakkara said lifeguards have been assigned to more than 50 locations this year, in addition to the sites that are usually covered.
The deployment includes areas in Puttalam, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, and Polonnaruwa.
Personnel from the Sri Lanka Life Saving Association, the Sri Lanka Navy, the Sri Lanka Army, and Police Lifeguard Units have been deployed for the operation.
The Association further stated that lifeguards have also been stationed along the southern coastline, including Galle, Matara, and Hikkaduwa.
The Association also issued guidance on how the public should respond if a person is involved in a water-related emergency, urging people to seek immediate assistance from trained lifeguards and emergency responders.
