Presidential Secretariat Official Remanded Over Passport Fraud Allegations

COLOMBO (News 1st):The Senior Assistant Secretary of the Parliamentary and Cabinet Division of the Presidential Secretariat, who was arrested, has been remanded in custody until the 30th of June.

This order was issued when he was produced before Maligakanda No. 2 Magistrate Y. D. Perera this morning.

He is accused of fraudulently obtaining and forging a passport in another person's name to facilitate the escape of an organized criminal from the country.

Investigations have revealed that the suspect committed the offense during his tenure as a Deputy Controller of the Overseas Missions Division at the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

The 41-year-old suspect is a resident of Kandy..

Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Human Trafficking, Smuggling, and Maritime Crime Investigation Division of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau.
