Public Warned Over Fake PHI Scam

COLOMBO (News 1st):The Public Health Inspectors’ Union of Sri Lanka says reports have surfaced of persons involved in a scam impersonating Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) and fraudulently obtaining money from households and institutions

Acting President Upul Rohana said that these fraudsters are taking advantage of dengue inspection activities and demanding money while claiming it is related to legal procedures.

He informed the public to refrain from giving money to anyone posing as a Public Health Inspector, as they do not charge or accept money for any official duties under any circumstances.

He also advised that if any person claiming to be a Public Health Inspector demands money in relation to their duties, the public should take steps to inform the police or the relevant authorities.
