COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police say that they have fined the drivers of 332 vehicles for traveling on expressways without wearing seatbelts.

This was following the inspection of 1,800 vehicles yesterday.

A three-month grace period has been granted, effective from yesterday, for vehicles that were not equipped with seatbelts during their manufacture to enter the expressways.

Manjula Kularatne, Chairman of the National Council for Road Safety, stated that for all other vehicles, wearing seatbelts has been mandatory for expressway travel starting from yesterday.
