COLOMBO (News 1st); Ghana claimed a dramatic 1-0 victory over Panama in a tense FIFA World Cup 2026 Group L encounter, with a stoppage-time goal deciding the outcome in a fiercely contested match.

The game at Toronto Stadium saw both teams locked in a tactical battle for much of the contest, with Panama enjoying spells of dominance, particularly in possession, while Ghana relied on defensive resilience and quick counterattacks.

Despite several attempts from both sides, the first half ended goalless, with chances at a premium and neither team able to break through. Panama looked the more threatening side early on, testing Ghana’s defence and goalkeeper, but were unable to convert their opportunities into a lead.

The second half saw a slight shift in momentum, with Ghana becoming more adventurous going forward, although clear-cut chances remained limited for both teams.

As the match appeared to be heading toward a stalemate, the decisive moment arrived deep into stoppage time.

Caleb Yirenkyi scored the winning goal in the 90+5 minute, finishing from close range after a well-worked attacking move involving a precise cross into the box, sealing a dramatic late victory for Ghana.
