COLOMBO (News 1st): The Court of Appeal today fixed the revision petition filed by Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, for hearing tomorrow.
The petition has been filed by Yoshitha Rajapaksa seeking a ruling that the charge of “conspiracy” in the case instituted against him by the Attorney General under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act cannot be maintained.
Accordingly, the petition is scheduled to be taken up before a bench of Court of Appeal judges comprising Amal Ranaraja and Dr. Sumudu Premachandra.
When the petition was previously taken up for consideration, Counsel Hafeel Fariz, appearing for Yoshitha Rajapaksa, informed court that one Daisy Forest had initially been named as a co-accused in the case along with his client but was later discharged.
He argued that, in such circumstances, proceeding with the charge of “conspiracy” against his client alone would be contrary to the law.
However, Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara, appearing for the Attorney General, submitted before court that the charge of “conspiracy” can be maintained even against a single accused.
Accordingly, the Court of Appeal directed that a full hearing on the matter will be conducted tomorrow.
