Sri Lankan Arrested at BIA with Illegal Foreign Cigarettes

COLOMBO (News 1st): Officers from the Police Narcotic Bureau at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayaka have arrested a Sri Lankan national for illegally smuggling a stock of foreign cigarettes into the country.

The value of the seized cigarette stock is estimated to be nearly Rs. 3,990,000.

Airport officials discovered 133 cartons containing a total of 26,600 illegal foreign cigarettes hidden inside two of the luggages brought by the suspect.

The arrested suspect has been identified as a 40-year-old businessman residing in Kottaramulla .

He had arrived from Sharjah.
