COLOMBO (News 1st) – Parliament has granted approval to refer a report prepared by the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) on alleged large-scale financial irregularities and fraud at the Department of Motor Traffic to the Attorney General.
This marks the first time in parliamentary history that a committee report submitted to Parliament is being directly forwarded to the Attorney General for review and potential legal proceedings.
During the first session of the Tenth Parliament, the Committee on Public Accounts conducted an extensive inquiry into the Department of Motor Traffic on March 10 and 21, 2025, summoning officials from the Department.
The investigation was carried out based on findings in audit reports.
