COLOMBO (News 1st);Today is the Vesak Full Moon Poya Day, which commemorates the noble and auspicious events of the Buddha's life.
This year marks the celebration of the 2,570th Vesak Festival.
Commemorating the threefold auspicious events—birth, enlightenment, and attainment of Nirvana of Lord Buddha, Buddhists all across Sri Lanka engage in various meritorious activities throughout the day.
Various programs have been organized across the island to celebrate the Vesak festival.
Vesak lanterns, pandols , Dansal and Vesak zones as well as various meritorious activities based on the teachings of the Buddha, have been organized for today.
Coinciding with the Vesak Full Moon Poya Day, the "Sirasa Namami" Sirasa Vesak Zone will be held this year, centered around the historic Rangiri Dambulla Rajamaha Viharaya.
The Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha, Angara Relics, and the Relics of the Chief Disciples Sariputta and Moggallana, which will be exhibited for veneration at the "Sirasa Namami" Sirasa Vesak Zone, will be brought from the Dambadeniya Rajamaha Viharaya.
The public exposition of the Sacred Relics will commence today from 11:00 AM onwards.
