Foreign Nationals Arrested with Rs. 7.5 Mn Worth Cigarettes

COLOMBO (News 1st); Airport Customs officers at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake have arrested two foreign nationals attempting to smuggle a large consignment of foreign-manufactured cigarettes into Sri Lanka.

The suspects were taken into custody after customs officials discovered a total of 50,200 cigarettes packed inside 251 cartons concealed within four travel bags. 

The seized stock, identified as products manufactured in China, is estimated to be worth approximately Rs. 7.53 million.

According to Customs, the individuals arrested are aged 28 and 48. They had arrived in Sri Lanka earlier today from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, when they were apprehended during inspection procedures.
