National Election Commission Summoned Before Parliamentary Special Committee Today

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Members of the National Election Commission have been summoned before a Parliamentary Special Committee today (21) in order to present recommendations regarding the conduct of the Provincial Council Elections.

The National Election Commission says that the members are scheduled to appear before the special committee this morning. 

The Parliamentary Special Committee was appointed under the chairmanship of Minister Vijitha Herath to examine and report on the electoral system under which the Provincial Council Elections should be held, and to submit its proposals and recommendations on the matter.

Several meetings have been carried out by the Parliamentary Special Committee on several occasions previously.

The Attorney General’s Department was also summoned before the Committee recently.

During the discussions, the committee instructed the department to provide a report on the legal obstacles related to holding the Provincial Council Elections.
